Windy Weather

Walking on a favorite pathway for a millionth time
Never gets old, no matter even if it’s a million and one
The eucalyptus tall, proud and timeless stand upright
The air at a standstill, the stillness is palpable reaching deeper
‘Till calm soothes the turbulence within, ‘till the eucalyptus roots its peace.

The air is mutable however, the breeze rises out of nowhere
At first welcoming as it washes over my body
I take a deep breath, hungry to inhale the tranquil edges of a potential wind
I let this pleasant breeze warm up my every cell and awaken my every sense
As I walk further, the air changes still, the gentle breeze now turning ominous.

The wind picks up roaring its arrival proudly, the breeze now transformed
I keep walking but the wind reminds me the road is difficult ahead
As I negotiate the ups and downs of the path, the wind now a foe
Pushes me back such that forward steps are no longer effortless
The wind finds its way between my legs, inside my clothes
To finally settle in my bones, chill now replaces warmth inside.

I walk faster trying to defy the direction of the wind
Pushing against it, I try to carve my path home
But the wind relentless, shakes and rattles everything in my way
The harder I try, the fiercer it gets, the more it pushes back
Stubborn is the wind, I realize, minuscule my efforts in its wake.

So I stand still, not powerless but strong is my stance
I know I can’t do battle with the wind, I let it rage
Whistle loud even howl with might
The outside world is stormy but inside I remain calm and serene
Still, breeze or wind the air changes at a whim
But strength cultivates each time, when unshaken at its shift.
