The San Francisco Sky

A dark gloom engulfs the blue sky
Casting a gray canopy over the city I love
My mood matches the moment as it always does
The air too familiar with this scene,
Withdraws in stillness.

I sit in the quiet of my garden
One or two black crows sweep past my vision
The thick layer of fog sedates me
As it rolls and hovers over the landscape,
I too withdraw in the stillness.

Sometimes suddenly and sometimes gradually
The veil lifts and the blue sky peeks out
A prelude to a glorious sunny day
Every creature wakes up from its slumber
As I do with a smile.

The colorful finches soak happily in the birdbath
The bees get busy over the salvia
The hummingbirds wheeze by with acrobatic flair
Monarchs and dragonflies orchestrate the scene
And I am a witness to this dazzling show.

Where moments before I was half asleep
Now I am awake, alive and smiling
Just like the finches, butterflies and the bees
I greet the day with revived spirit
Soaring above the bay on this glorious day.
