Sunbathing

I once sat on a bench and what did I see
Three little ducks laying by the sea
Necks swung on backs
Perfect semicircle
Natural twist
Effortless posture

I wondered about their reverie
But sunbathing they were merely
Feathers glistened under every ray
Unhurried breaths
Stillness
Hours on end

I once sat on a bench and what did I see
Anxious humans sunbathing next to the sea
Spraying suntan lotion constantly
Adjusting positions frequently
Restlessly
Fidgety

They say it’s hard work to quiet the mind
They say it’s hard work to be still
I say you are in luck
Just breathe in and out
But if that doesn’t work, borrow a page from
the ducks
