In the Era of COVID-19

Adoration fell on the likes of me
Though it caught me by surprise
Applause from balconies was heard across the globe
As citizens lifted healthcare worker’s hope
Renewed respect reigned supreme worldwide
As everyone wished advice for us to provide
Recognition of our hard work now transparent
We were praised as our dedication became apparent
But if we were greeted with admiration each day
Our egos would turn wild and outrageous
Thus the universe made the virus contagious
So as to transform us into pariahs
At the end of each shift we change and reborn
Fear pervades and we become subject to social scorn
