Life is Dimming

A poem about end of life

Light is dimming
Was it worth living
Did you paint the sun rays
Bright, brilliant, generous
To shine on the seeds you planted

Did you tend to the tender beginnings
With your love, did you nourish the seedling
With your patience, did you wait for the harvest
Did you then share the fruit of your labor
With the world

When your fields were barren
Did you recede like the dry fields
Not having courage to attempt again
Did you ask the sun to shine on you alone
Losing faith in your harvest

I’d like to think that you tried
I’d like to think that you tried and failed but that you tried
I’d like to think that you are at peace
I’d like to think that you are dreaming sweet dreams
Now that your light is dimming
Now that your life is dimming
