Happiness

People chasing happiness
‘Round the corner we peek
Inside ourselves we dig
Outside elements we seek
We run after happy places
We surround ourselves with happy people
Happy pills we take dutifully
Happy occasions we celebrate regularly
Happy birthday, happy New Year, happy anniversary
“Happy” before every event we interject
But in pursuit of happiness, we become weary, then angry and finally sad

I wonder however if we could stay still
Instead of forcing our will
Ride with the peaks and valleys of each emotion
What a novel notion
Experience the lows and the highs
Relish each human feeling
Find deeper connection with meaning
For happiness although pleasing
Is often fabricated and fleeting
