I wonder why you are called a Cholla and not a Lola or a Viola
i marvel at your beauty
one cactus needle juxtaposed with another,
coalesced to form a perfect mound.

In the hot desert sun you thrive
with your translucent spines
you glow golden and
invite admirers to delight at your sight.

I meander through your gardens
i wish to awaken my senses, touch and smell you
but neither is pleasing
that’s what makes you intriguing.

From afar fuzzy, soft, cuddly, teddy- bear- esqu
close up you are unparalleled
you are a unique Cholla,
you can never be a Lola or a Viola.
