A Letter to my Dad
Dear Dad,
We are gathered here in your honor. If you are looking down on us from the heavens, you will be happy to see that I am here with your grandchildren and a dear priest who shall pray for you because I know how much prayer mattered to you when you were alive. I know you prayed relentlessly, standing tall in the back pew of a small church you would go to each Sunday. You prayed for us and now it is our turn to pray for you.
Dear dad due to circumstances beyond both our control, we weren’t very close and I am sorry that I didn’t get to know you more when you were alive, but I enjoyed the time we spent with each other when I was a grown adult with children of my own; and I am especially happy that you got to know and love your grandchildren. They are your legacy and they will make you proud.
Though I didn’t tell you this often when you were alive, I loved you dad and when you passed away, the sense of emptiness I felt was immense and paralyzed me. We are all connected, but the connection between a parent and a child is deeply rooted. Mutual blood throbs in our hearts and pulsates through our veins. When you passed away, a part of me also died. I now know what grief feels like.
Forever rest in peace.
PS My only request is that you watch over us, especially over your grandchildren. Please protect them from the evils of this world and always show them the righteous path.
