An Utterly Incredulous Year Like No Other
As grim as this year has been, it was in many ways a mystery unfolding in layers and each layer was a teachable moment.
It taught us how to be still in quiet moments of reflection. So as I reflect on this year a few choice moments stand out.
2020 taught us how to get closer to people by showing our vulnerable side to each other as we realized we were all in this pandemic together. All of us rich, poor, black, white, girl, boy, old or young are a microorganism and thus a vector for transmission. That’s a tough concept to grasp when we start to perceive our neighbors as potential risky creatures spewing virus with each friendly hello. Paradoxically even though we distance ourselves physically; emotionally we have moved closer, with the realization that we are interconnected to each other at a cellular level.
2020 taught me that the choices I make not only effects me and my immediate circle but has far reaching global ramifications. When I reflect on it this way, I am bewildered on how much responsibility lies on each of our shoulders to do the right thing. What I chose to eat matters. The kind of car I chose to drive matters. How much waste I produce matters. How I raise my children has always mattered, but raising compassionate and responsible citizens of this world has taken the forefront…
